The Unrestful Sleep Of Queen Katherine Parr

(Born 1512 died 1548)

People just refused to let Queen Katherine Parr, 6th wife of king henry VIII of england rest peacefully. After her tyrant husband died on January 28th, 1547, Katherine married the Baron Seymour of Sudeley; however, this wasn't to be "happily ever after" for the Queen. She died in childbirth on September 5th, 1548. In 1782, a man named John Lucas discovered the coffin of Queen Katherine at the ruins of the Sudeley Castle chapel. After he opened the coffin, he was shocked to see that Katherine's body still looked fairly fresh after 234 years. Even the flesh on her limbs was still white and moist. He took a few locks of hair as a keepsake then he closed the coffin and returned it to the grave.

The coffin was opened a few more times during the next ten years. In 1792, some drunken men buried the Queen upside down and in a rough way. When the coffin was opened yet again in 1817, nothing remained but a skeleton.

The Queen has rested ever since, because the coffin was moved to the tomb of Lord Chandos whose family owned castle Sudeley at the time. In later years the chapel was rebuilt by Sir John Scott and an altar-tomb was erected for Queen Katherine.

Hopefully, she will rest peacefully forevermore.
