Background Information:  Like most people who are interested in the unexplained, I've heard of the Mothman legend over the years, but I'd never studied the case in detail. I became interested in the case when I saw an episode devoted to Mothman on the A&E program Paranormal State.

In many ways, the Mothman legend reminds me of the Jersey Devil in that it revolves around a flying, monsterous creature of unknown origin that inspires fear in those it encounters. Numerous witnesses who've spotted Mothman have described him as a tall, dark, winged, birdlike, humanoid creature with red eyes.

Mothman's legend was born in November, 1967 in Point Pleasant, Virginia. During a 14-month period there were over a hundred sightings of the creature. He would often be seen flying over or chasing cars, standing in fields, or peering through windows. Many terrified witnesses filed reports with the police department. It seems that the little town was besieged by alarming encounters with what was considered to be a supernatural being or monster. The scale and frequency of the sightings was so shocking that Mothman became one of the best known paranormal mysteries of all time.

The creature supposedly set up house in an abandoned US government TNT plant. The site was originally The McClintie Wildlife Preserve, a designated bird sanctuary. During World War II, the preserve was used to house 100 igloos that held wartime explosives.

Dog and livestock disappearances and mutilations were common around the TNT area during the time that Mothman was most active.

In all, over a hundred people witnessed the Mothman sightings, providing a wealth of testimony as to its appearance and behavior.

The first round of sightings dramatically and tragically concluded in December 1968 when the Silver Bridge collapsed into the Ohio River below, during rush hour, killing 46 people. But some claim that Mothman has reappeared before other great tragedies, including the Chernobyl explosion, the Tsunami in India, Afghanistan and Iraq, and in New York on September the 11th.

Others are of the opinion that Mothman relates to the Cornstalk Curse of the 1770's. During that time, the Ohio River ran red with blood as the colonists started their push west, killing the Native Americans and stealing their land.

In the spring of 1777, Chief Cornstalk, of the Shawnee tribe visited the garrison at Point Pleasant with a small contingent of Indians and informed the colonials of a dangerous Indian coalition that the British were forming. While the Virginians waited for reinforcements, the Indians were held as hostages. After a white man was killed outside the fort by other Indians, Chief Cornstalk and his men (including his son, Elinipsico) were brutually murdered by the soldiers.

Supposedly, as the Chief lay dying, he placed a curse upon the Point Pleasant area promising to bring death, tragedy and disaster to the area.

But, to my knowledge, there is no evidence to tie Mothman to a curse or Chief Cornstalk. And no evidence has ever been produced to prove that the Mothman either prophesized the Silver Bridge Tragedy or directly caused it. But the general impression of evil that witnesses have all experienced when they encountered this creature left them no doubt as to a connection with that tragedy.

But it all sounds so unbelievable, like something out of a sci-fi movie or a comic book. So I decided to connect to the case and see if I could find out if Mothman was real or merely the product of hysteria.

Psychic Connection #1: The first time I connected to the Mothman case, I focused on where the Mothman is. I suddenly floated above a long winding woodland path or dirt road. Tall, thin trees lined the road on both sides. The vegetation was sparse and dark as if it was fall or early winter, and the area seemed desolate. There is no other indication of time. I have no idea what year it is.

I followed the road as the path wound to the right but eventually it veered to the left (keep in mind that I normally see everything in reverse in these visions). I noticed that the landscape to the right was rising into a hill that was covered with sparse vegetation and saplings. I continued to follow the road which now curved back toward the right and led to the area in front of the hill.

Several feet in front of the igloo doors, I saw a black hole appear in the ground. Out of it arose Mothman. He was completely black and humanoid in shape. As I floated above him, southwest of where he and the doors were, I couldn't make out any facial or body details other than that he seemed very muscular. I couldn't tell if he had wings. He appeared to be unaware that I was watching him.

The fact that he arose from the ground could be symbolic. There could be something underground in that area.

I wanted to keep watching Mothman to see what he'd do, but suddenly I was at another scene where I saw, up close, what appeared to be a great ocean creature, likely a whale, swimming gracefully in the water, and sometimes rotating, but the image changed and looked more like an airplane that was flying in the sky or it could possibly be mothman in flight. I have no idea what this means. Perhaps it's symbolic and represents our need to create things based on the physical attributes of life forms...for example the airplane is shaped much like a bird and a submarine is shaped much like the body of a whale. But how this fits in with Mothman, I have no idea, and I'm still pondering that as I write this. This part of the vision has to have some relevance or I wouldn't have seen it.

Then I saw various scenes that came in rapid succession, mainly of mothman flying high and often around what appeared to be power lines. Could this be how he gets his power? In fact, in one scene, it looked as if he were caught in the power lines. At the end of the connection, I saw him near a bridge, likely, the Silver Bridge that collapsed.

Now I have an indication of time--doubtlessly I was peeking into a time before the bridge collasped.

However, I didn't get the feeling that he was in any way responsible for the bridge's collapse or that he'd done anything else that could be termed "evil."

And I picked up no connection to Chief Cornstalk or a curse.

I came away from this vision baffled about what it all meant, but I saw enough to know that mothman is (or was) real. Being so, I wanted to know more, so I tried to connect a second time the next night.

Psychic Connection #2: After I connected, I immediately had numerous close-up views of non-human beings with glistening eyes. Some of these creatures looked a bit different from the others. Whereas some had clearly defined facial features, some of them seemed devoid of certain features except for the eyes. The images came in rapid succession and then slowed down to one. The last was the most shocking of all. I got a good look at his face as he watched me. His broad, rounded face was very humanoid and reminded me of the Devil in the Legend movie or Worf from Star Trek, only he didn't have horns or a heavy ridge above the nose. Though I don't know what color he was as the vision was in black and white, he was dark-skinned and his facial skin was somewhat bumpy, with small circular protrusions that were evenly spaced and spread apart by as much as a half-inch. He had a mouth, a nose, and a slightly pronounced forehead.

But the real shocker were the eyes. They were hypnotic and could have been reptilian or insectoid. I sensed that they were gold though I couldn't see the color. He looked at me intently, with determination, never once flinching. No emotion showed on his face, but the eyes were alive. I grew alarmed and wanted to discontinue.

I've never seen non-human beings in a vision before (other than a red-eyed thing of unknown origin in the Amityville case) so seeing this creature was quite alarming.

I grew more alarmed as I realized that he was likely seeing me in return.

And then suddenly, I saw myself in the vision. I was lying in bed, head resting on a white pillow, and surrounded by white. My skin was pale. I looked much younger. My eyes were closed as I was in a psychic trance.

I've never seen myself like this in a vision before and this scared me, so I broke the connection at once and decided not to attempt a connection to the Mothman again.

Why? Obviously, he had seen me and knew I was researching him and was letting me know about it. If he is an evil being, such as a demon, such a connection could bring danger to me and my family. So after the connection, I said a prayer of protection and have tried to focus on white protective light surrounding my home. So far, a few days have passed, and so far, there have been no ill effects following this connection, and I don't feel that a negative entity is near or in any way attached to me.

Conclusion: In conclusion, Mothman exists. I don't know what he is, but he's not human. And I don't think he's the spirit of a human. He looked like a living being. I don't think he's a spirit at all, but rather, a living being, the origin of which I'm not familiar with. Is he an alien? Perhaps. Is he a demon? Perhaps. He looked something like the devil in the movie Legend but that doesn't mean that he is a demon or devil or that he's evil. I was alarmed during my vision, but, in retrospect, I didn't sense great evil.

There are all kinds of spirits on this planet, many of which have a good purpose, and, at this time, I can't say whether Mothman is good or evil or what his purpose or reason for being is.

I do not sense that he had anything to do with the Silver Bridge collapse. If anything, I think he was trying to warn the population about the impending tragedy--this is something I don't think a demon would do. He definitely has psychic abilities, because he saw me look at him and shot an image of myself back to me. So it's not outside the range of possibility that he foresaw the tragedy and was trying to warn those he came in contact with in Point Pleasant. If he's an alien, perhaps he knew of the impending tragedy from technical means.

His encounters with the population Point Pleasant seemed terrifying, but perhaps he didn't know how to approach these people or communicate with them and was merely trying to get their attention. Afterall, Mothman never hurt anyone even though he was in close contact with humans many times according to witness testimonies. Had anyone stopped to ask him what he wanted, perhaps he could have communicated his message, and a tragedy could have been prevented.

As for Chief Cornstalk, there's likely negativity around the old Chief's grave. Afterall, he and his son were horribly and unjustly murdered, but I don't sense a connection between him and Mothman or between him and the Silver Bridge tragedy.

I don't think it would be a bad idea for the local Shawnee tribe and the people of Point Pleasant to pay homage to the Chief and try to put his spirit to rest.
